Welcome to the temporary home of FLnachi
The purpose of this site is to explain the concepts behind forming a state wide chapter, and the benefits that it hopes to bring to interNACHI members in Florida.
As we all know the state legislature passed a home inspection licensing act during the 2007 session, this bill will affect ALL home inspectors in the state by its enactment date of 2010
The main provisions of the bill are:
-
Every inspector will have to provide proof of 120 hours of approved education.
-
Every inspector will have to pass an approved licensing exam.
-
Every inspector will be required to carry a minimum $300,000 GL policy.
-
Every inspector will be required to do 8 hours continuing education per year.
This is the gist of what the current law says, there is currently NO PROVISION FOR GRANDFATHERING for anyone.
The goal of FLnachi is to ensure that all chapter members who wish to apply for a license are able to meet the requirements of the bill. to this end the state chapter has proposed the following.
-
To make available to members primary education courses acceptable to the state.
-
To ensure that all members have passed a proctored licensing exam.
-
To provide continuing education acceptable to the state.
-
To negotiate suitable insurances for our members.
As most of you are aware the bill itself is far from being the last word on the subject of licensing, if fact it is just the first act, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) are promulgating the rules under which the bill will be enacted, we need to ensure that these rules are drawn up fairly for all inspectors regardless of association, to do this we need the backing of our members, and a mandate from them so we are able to be heard in Tallahasee.
